Tokyo: Shares open lower despite Wall St gains

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened modestly lower on Thursday, running out of steam after rallying more than four percent the previous day and despite a positive lead from Wall Street.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 0.30 per cent, or 50.77 points, to 16,695.78 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares edged down 0.10 per cent, or 1.29 points, to 1,348.32.
