[TOKYO] Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei index opened lower on Tuesday after global markets trended down, with high-tech shares hit particularly hard, amid lingering concerns over US inflation and rising US interest rates.
The Nikkei 225 index fell more than two per cent shortly after the open before recovering slightly to be 1.63 percent lower, down 464.36 points, at 27,980.53 in early trade, while the broader Topix index lost 1.05 per cent or 20.69 points, to 1,953.23.
