Tokyo: Stocks down at open

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as a stronger yen hit exporters and following a lacklustre lead from Wall Street.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.39 per cent, or 65.89 points, to 16,699.08 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares fell 0.42 per cent, or 5.51 points, to 1,311.98.
