Tokyo: Stocks edge up at close

    [TOKYO] Tokyo stocks closed slightly higher on Wednesday (Dec 22) after the country detected its first known community transmission of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

    The benchmark Nikkei 225 index closed up 0.16 per cent or 44.62 points at 28,562.21, while the broader Topix index ended up 0.09 per cent or 1.72 points at 1,971.51.
