Tokyo: Stocks open 0.63% higher
[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened 0.63 per cent higher on Friday, taking a positive lead from Wall Street.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 122.93 points to 19,693.17 at the start.
In New York the S&P 500 bolted to a fresh record-high close on Thursday, led by strong gains in Apple, Facebook and other technology stocks.
The broad-market S&P 500 rose 22.62 points, or 1.08 per cent, to a record 2,121.10.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.06 per cent while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 1.39 per cent.
The dollar was at 119.22 yen early Friday compared with 119.19 yen in New York late Thursday.
The euro bought $1.1403 and 135.92 yen against US$1.1414 and 136.04 yen in US trade, underpinned by bright eurozone economic growth data.
