Tokyo: Stocks open lower despite Wall St gains

    [TOKYO] Tokyo stocks dipped at the start of trade on Friday as a stronger yen dented exports, despite a positive lead from Wall Street.

    The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 0.19 per cent, or 32.80 points, to 16,927.36 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares fell 0.17 per cent, or 2.32 points, to 1,366.73.
