Tokyo: Stocks open lower on Thursday

    [TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened lower on Thursday as investors locked in profits after the market advanced to the highest level in six months the previous day.

    The benchmark Nikkei 225 index fell 0.29 per cent, or 49.69 points, to 17,342.15 in the first few minutes of trading.

    The Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.19 per cent, or 2.66 points, to 1,380.04.
