Tokyo: Stocks open lower on Wall St losses, weak oil price

    [TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower on a stronger yen Wednesday, following losses on Wall Street amid a retreat in commodity-linked stocks due to weaker oil prices.

    The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 0.52 per cent, or 101.10 points to 19,391.50 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares was down 0.50 per cent, or 7.87 points, at 1,560.86.
