Tokyo: Stocks open lower as yen advances

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower on Monday as the yen's strength discouraged investors while they waited for US President Donald Trump to deliver a policy speech to Congress later this week.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.81 per cent, or 156.05 points, to 19,127.49 in the first minutes of trading, while the Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.86 per cent, or 13.35 points, at 1,536.79.
