Tokyo: Stocks open lower as yen jumps after Fed meet

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower Thursday as the yen rose against the US dollar after the US central bank signalled only a gradual pace for additional increases in its key lending rate.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 0.51 per cent, or 100.04 points, to 19,477.34 in early trade while the Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.54 per cent, or 8.41 points, at 1,562.90.
