Tokyo: Stocks open modestly higher on Wall Street rally

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher on Friday, encouraged by rallies on Wall Street and a stable exchange rate between the yen and the dollar amid the Japanese corporate earnings season.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.49 per cent, or 101.37 points, at 20,874.86 in early trade, while the broader Topix index rose 0.12 per cent, or 1.83 points, to 1,569.32.
