Tokyo: Stocks rise 1.3% as Japan Post soars on market debut
[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks closed 1.3 per cent higher on Wednesday as Japan Post shares skyrocketed in their long-awaited market debut after an US$11.5 billion initial public offering, the biggest so far this year.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange advanced 243.67 points to 18,926.91, while the Topix index of all first-section shares climbed 0.88 per cent, or 13.46 points, to 1,540.43.
