[TOKYO] Tokyo's benchmark stock index soared more than four per cent on Wednesday, extending a rally on world markets as sentiment was buoyed by upbeat US data and hopes that new central bank moves will boost China's slowing economy.
The Nikkei 225 index jumped 4.11 per cent, or 661.04 points, to close at 16,746.55 and the broader Topix index of all first-section shares surged 3.75 per cent, or 48.78 points, to 1,349.61.
