US markets head lower in opening trade

[NEW YORK] US stocks fell modestly in opening trade Monday, after surviving last week's extreme China-driven turmoil with net gains.

Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.56 per cent, while the S&P 500 lost 0.46 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite gave up 0.30 per cent.
