US: Shares boosted by ECB stimulus plan
[NEW YORK] The European Central Bank's larger-than-expected stimulus plan to fend off slow growth and deflation in the eurozone gave US shares a boost in opening trade on Thursday.
In the first five minutes of trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 62.42 points (0.36 per cent) at 17,616.70.
The broad-based S&P 500 rose 6.07 (0.30 per cent) to 2,038.19, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite gained 10.72 (0.23 per cent) at 4,668.14.
