US: S&P 500, Dow muted at open as rate-cut cheer ebbs

THE S&P 500 and the Dow edged lower at market open on Friday (Dec 15) after comments from a US Federal Reserve official dampened recent upbeat sentiment.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 53.85 points, or 0.14 per cent, at the open to 37,194.50.
The S&P 500 opened lower by 5.32 points, or 0.11 per cent, at 4,714.23, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 35.90 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 14,797.46 at the opening bell. REUTERS
