US: Stocks mixed as Nvidia soars to new heights

US STOCKS finished mixed on Monday, as investors plowed money into the semiconductor sector following strong results from Taiwan-based Foxconn, helping spur chip designer Nvidia to a fresh record.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.1 per cent to close at 42,706.56, while the broad-based S&P 500 Index rose 0.6 per cent to 5,975.38.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index faired the best out of the three major Wall Street indices, jumping 1.2 per cent to finish the day at 19,864.98.
It was a “mixed day” that started well before petering out, FHN Financial chief economist Christopher Low told AFP.
Nvidia popped more than 3.4 per cent to close at a new record, giving the company a market valuation of more than US$3.6 trillion.
And shares of the streaming company Fubo surged by more than 251 per cent after Disney announced it would be merging Fubo with the Hulu+ Live TV service. Disney’s shares closed down 0.1 per cent. AFP
