[NEW YORK] US equities staged a comeback on Thursday (Jan 6) as investors took pause on bets that tighter monetary policy from the Federal Reserve would crimp richly valued technology stocks.

The S&P 500 gained 0.3 per cent while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 added 0.3 per cent, rebounding from the index's biggest slump since March.

Treasury yields extended a spike along with other government bonds. The USdollar fluctuated, while the yen caught a haven bid.

Equities showed relative calm on Thursday, while global bonds extended a sell-off.

The S&P 500 rose 0.2 per cent as at 9.37 am New York time. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.4 per cent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was little changed.
