[NEW YORK] Stocks rose as investor optimism grew that the economic recovery can weather the coronavirus flareup.

The S&P 500 advanced for a third session, trading near its all-time high. Treasuries fell, while the US dollar fluctuated.

"Markets hate uncertainty and not knowing," said Carol Schleif, deputy chief investment officer at BMO Family Office. "But it seems like it's edging toward something more positive."

The S&P 500 rose 0.2 per cent as at 9.30 am New York time. The Nasdaq 100 was little changed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3 per cent.
