Centurion's appeal to raise bed capacity at workers' dorm fails

WORKER dormitory owner Centurion Corp has failed in its appeal to the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) to raise its bed capacity at a Jurong dormitory, it said in a Singapore Exchange filing on Friday night.

This came after it was discovered that the actual bed capacity of the Westlite Toh Guan dormitory was 8,628, more than the 7,820 beds documented in plans attached to a written permission URA granted in 2011.

Centurion said on Friday it would now have to reduce the bed capacity at the dormitory by 808 beds "and any excess workers will be shifted out from the dormitory".
