MAINBOARD-LISTED China Everbright Water is like still water that runs deep. An under-researched company, it is building China's first pilot "sponge city" in Zhenjiang, a 2.585 billion yuan (S$543 million) project to create urban underground water systems that operate like a sponge to absorb and store rainwater, and release it for use when needed.

Formed in 2014 via a reverse takeover of HanKore Environment Tech by China Everbright International, China Everbright Water has been focused on the Chinese market. Its current challenges are the slowing growth in China and a lack of understanding of the business by Singapore investors.
