AFTER its success in distributing Beyond Meat Inc's mock beef patties in Asia, start-up Green Monday has a new food challenge: convince Chinese consumers to try its lab-grown meatless pork.
With Chinese consumers eating over half of the 79 million tonnes of pork consumed worldwide last year, the potential market for its mock pork - made of pea, rice, shiitake mushroom and soya bean to mimic the taste and texture of the real thing - is immense. That's if they bite.
