GET ready for an all-new reading experience as The Business Times (BT) launches new tablet apps on May 4, 2021.

These new universal apps are upgraded versions of the BT iPhone and Android phone apps. This means that iPad users no longer have to install an iPad-specific app for their tablets, and can instead use the new universal iOS app. This also marks the first time BT has an Android app optimised for Android tablets.

The roll-out is being spread over the next two weeks, so not all users will immediately see the new versions in their list of app updates. Users of the old standalone BT iPad app will need to manually download the new iOS app.

The new apps take all the improvements BT debuted in its iPhone and Android phone apps in May 2020 - including speed, security and a streamlined reading experience - and have optimised them to make the most of the larger screen real estate on iPads and Android tablets.

This means less zooming when browsing the e-paper, more stories listed on each page and, ultimately, an experience tailor-made for tablet news reading.

E-paper readers can expect a faster, smoother reading and navigation experience with the larger screen size.

Navigate seamlessly with a clean, intuitive layout that shows what readers want to see - no more strained eyes plus improved readability with a larger display. Stories, photos, videos will look better than ever with the new, sleek design.

If an interesting headline has caught your attention but you have no time to read it, the bookmarking function will ensure that you never lose a story again by saving it to a list that you can get back to when you have more time to spare. In addition, the new read-time indicators act as helpful estimates of an article's length.

Enable hands-free reading with the text-to-speech function that will read stories out loud while you are busy washing the dishes or putting the clothes away.

The new apps deliver greater reliability, faster and enhanced performance. This is all part of delivering what is important - the latest business and financial news and analysis as only BT can provide.

For iPad users, the new app support iOS 11 and above; for Android tablet users, the new app support OS 5 and above.
