Nike continues to shake up leadership team under CEO Elliott Hill

[NEW YORK] Nike is continuing to shake up its leadership team under chief executive officer Elliott Hill, who has been trying to get the company back on track and re-establish its authority in the sportswear market.

The company is eliminating roles held by Muge Dogan, who was chief technology officer and joined Nike in November 2023, and by Craig Williams, the former head of the Jordan brand who most recently was Nike’s chief commercial officer.

Dogan and Williams held prominent roles under Nike’s former CEO John Donahoe. Williams had been considered to be one of the internal prospects for the CEO role before Hill was appointed last year.

Venkatesh Alagirisamy, currently Nike’s chief supply chain officer, will become chief operating officer, a newly established role. A nearly 20-year Nike veteran, Alagirisamy will oversee technology in addition to his existing responsibilities.

The senior leaders of Nike’s four Geographies teams are now going to report to Hill and sit on the senior leadership team.

The changes were made as part of Nike’s push under Hill to rebuild its focus on athletes and get shoppers excited about the brand again.

In recent years, the world’s largest sportswear company has lost customers by leaning too hard on selling lifestyle sneakers, while neglecting gear that appeals to athletes. Last year, the company shed US$5 billion in revenue and replaced its chief executive.

Shares of Nike are down more than 14 per cent this year as of the close on Tuesday (Dec 2). BLOOMBERG
