JUST as Islamic finance has blazed its way to what is reportedly a US$2 trillion industry today, Islamic apps for the Muslim consumer have taken off.
From food and travel to education and fashion, these apps - in the hundreds and proliferating globally - cater to what observers say is a market that serves practical needs beyond just the spiritual, such as restaurants that comply with Islamic dietary laws and hotels that have separate swimming pools for men and women. It is also a booming market boosted by higher affluence and tech-savviness, and a lucrative one for app developers, who can, for instance, charge merchants or advertisers for access to a targeted group, accreditation and transactions made through the app, observers added.
