Economist Song Seng Wun takes on economic adviser role at CGS-CIMB

CGS-CIMB Securities Singapore has appointed veteran economist Song Seng Wun as Singapore economic adviser.

Previously an economist at CIMB Private Banking, he has 30 years of working experience as an economist, covering three regional and global recessions and focusing on the Asean-5 economies.

In his new role, he will be in charge of enhancing the financial service provider’s presence in Singapore. This includes providing economic commentary and helping CGS-CIMB gain recognition within the financial community.

Song said: “Joining CGS-CIMB Securities Singapore is a great honour for me, and I very much look forward to working with our analysts to provide clients with the best possible insights into major markets, including Singapore.”

A well-regarded figure in the research community, Song worked at CIMB Private Banking from 2015 to July 2023. Prior to that, he was a regional economist at CIMB Research from 1998 to 2015.

He was with brokerage GK Goh when CIMB bought the broking business in 2005, and he stayed on as the regional economist in the renamed entity, CIMB-GK Goh Securities.

He started his career in 1985 at Maybank in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia before relocating to Singapore in 1990. He then worked as a regional economist in financial institutions such as Merrill Lynch, Warburg Dillon Read and ABN Amro.
