Emperador’s 2022 net profit rises 0.9% on whisky gains
EMPERADOR’S net profits for the full year ended Dec 31, 2022, was up 0.9 per cent to 10.1 billion pesos (S$242.1 million) from 10 billion pesos recorded in FY2021.
This comes on the back of higher profits recorded in the group’s whiskey segment, which rose 76.7 per cent to 4.5 billion pesos, from 2.6 billion pesos. The group said its scotch whisky arm had done well, driven by the sale of high-margin single malt whiskies across most of its markets worldwide – particularly in Europe, Asia and North America.
However, the group’s brandy segment recorded a drop of 25.1 per cent in profits to 5.5 billion pesos in FY2022, from 7.4 billion the year before. Higher costs, increased operating expenses and reduced tax expense were cited as reasons for the decrease.
Meanwhile, revenue for the group gained 12.2 per cent to 62.8 billion pesos, up from 55.9 billion pesos in 2021.
Earnings per share for 2022 stood at 0.64 pesos, higher than the 0.63 pesos in 2021 and 0.50 pesos recorded in 2020.
The company did not declare a dividend for FY2022 as the process flow for dividends to stockholders on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) had not yet been finalised until Mar 29 this year, post-listing on the SGX in July last year.
