Berlin warns no green light for Nord Stream 2 pipeline if any Ukraine 'escalation'

[BERLIN] The controversial new Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia will not be allowed to operate in the event of any new "escalation" in Ukraine, under an agreement in principle concluded between Berlin and Washington, Germany's new Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Sunday.
Due to the tense security situation, "it was agreed between the Americans and the former German government" of Angela Merkel "that in the event of further escalation this gas pipeline could not come into service", Baerbock told German television station ZDF, as fears of an invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops grew.
