Fuel pump prices up again, by up to S$0.08 in less than 2 weeks

PUMP prices have increased again over the past 10 days, up as much as 8 Singapore cents a litre.

With reference to Fuel Kaki, prices at Esso increased the most, with posted rates for all its fuel up 8 cents per litre.

Fuel Kaki is a retail fuel price comparison website developed by the Consumers Association of Singapore. It aims to facilitate comparison of effective prices of retail fuel for consumers.

The price was last updated for Caltex fuel on Feb 24, while prices for Esso and Shell were last updated on Feb 25.

Diesel at Caltex and Shell posted prices of S$2.42 per litre before discount and S$2.39 at Esso. This represents an increase of 6 cents per litre for Caltex and Shell and 8 cents for Esso since Feb 14.

Prices of 92-octane fuel have also gone up 7 cents per litre for Caltex, from S$2.72 to S$2.79. For Esso, prices have increased by 8 cents per litre, from S$2.72 to S$2.80. Shell does not offer 92-octane fuel.

The popular 95-octane fuel has seen an increase in cost as well. Costs of the petrol at Caltex and Shell rose from S$2.78 to S$2.85, translating to a growth of 7 cents per litre while Esso posted a price of S$2.84, up 8 cents from S$2.76 previously.

The 98-octane fuel, offered at Esso and Shell, increased by 8 cents and 7 cents per litre respectively. On Feb 14, the price of the fuel at Esso was S$3.23 per litre and grew to S$3.31 per litre on Feb 25. Shell saw an increase from S$3.27 to S$3.34.

Premium 98-grade oil offered by Caltex has risen 7 cents per litre from S$3.44 to S$3.51.

The growth in fuel prices comes with the jump in crude oil prices after Russia, one of the world's top oil producers, attacked Ukraine.

According to a Reuters article, Brent crude oil shot above US$105 a barrel. The article added that oil supplies remain tight as fuel demand is still recovering from pandemic lows.
