MPA's LNG bunkering drive gives shipbuilding sector a boost
Singapore
AS Singapore plays host this week to Gastech 2015 - one of the biggest events celebrating gas technology advancements - the island nation will get a boost in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipbuilding space from a series of LNG bunkering initiatives that have been unveiled by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
Building LNG bunkering capacity ahead of a global sulphur cap, MPA issued calls for applications for LNG bunkering licences and announced S$12 million worth of incentives for the construction of up to six LNG-fuelled vessels. The move comes as MPA looks into adopting "the use of clean energy, especially LNG as a ship fuel, as a key development in the next generation port 2030" in Tuas, said its chief executive Andrew Tan recently.
