ALREADY grappling with the soaring cost of living, Malaysians will have to fork out up to 8 per cent more in gas bills as the price of piped natural gas is set to increase from July 1. But a double whammy was averted when Putrajaya kept electricity tariffs unchanged.
Even so, the hike in gas prices - in the peninsula by RM1.50/MMBtu (or one million British thermal units) to RM19.70 from RM18.20 - is yet another burden for most Malaysians hurt by a diminishing ringgit.
