Sinopec's Shanghai Petchem to resume full operation in mid-Sept
SINOPEC Shanghai Petrochemical is expected to resume full operation of its 320,000 barrel-per-day refinery in mid-September after it was shut down due to a fire in June, a company official told a conference call on Friday (Aug 26).
Operations have resumed at more than 20 of the refinery’s facilities since mid-August, including the No 2 crude distillation unit.
Sinopec Shanghai’s crude oil throughput fell 6.7 per cent in the first half of 2022 from a year ago to 5.8 million tonnes, as lockdowns in Shanghai and other parts of China curbed fuel demand and maintenance disrupted production.
The firm posted a loss of US$63.55 million in the first half of 2022, with its refined oil products output plunging 13 per cent to 3.15 million tonnes.
“We have adjusted our maintenance plan in the second half of 2022, by bringing some units that were scheduled to go under overhaul in August-October early to June-August,” said Du Jun, chief accountant at Sinopec Shanghai, at a conference call.
“Therefore we expect our operational rate to resume to a normal level in September,” Du said.
The firm said it would actively adjust its crude oil purchase and product output in accordance with the market situation. It bought 99,800 tonnes of Russia’s Ural crude over the first six month this year.
Sinopec Shanghai also expects to start production at its 6,000-tonnes-per-annum large-tow carbon fiber project, which will produce high-strength fiber material used in high-speed rail and wind turbines, by the end of 2022. REUTERS
