[HOUSTON] The United Steelworkers union (USW) and lead refinery owner representative Shell Oil Co discussed a possible resumption of face-to-face negotiations to settle the US refinery strike, which was in its 26th day on Thursday, said sources familiar with the discussions.

No date had been set for resuming direct meetings as of Thursday evening, the sources said.

The USW and Shell, which is the US arm of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, last met on Friday, when refinery owners balked at a possible settlement. After that meeting, the USW ordered walkouts at three refineries co-owned by Shell.
