MALAYSIAN palm oil giant Sime Darby Plantation Bhd (Sime Darby) told The Business Times on Monday (Apr 18) that it is in discussions with US food group Cargill on the latter’s decision to suspend purchases of palm oil from Sime Darby.

A Sime Darby spokesperson added that its supply of bulk products to Cargill in India has now been “taken up by other customers”.

The spokesperson confirmed that Cargill, which is a direct customer of Sime Darby, decided to suspend all new sourcing of palm oil and derivative products from Feb 25. The company said, on its website, that it will review this decision when the independent report by Impactt is published, which is expected to happen at the end of March.
