Former Sembcorp Marine Brazil unit president Martin Cheah acquitted
FORMER Sembcorp Marine, now Seatrium, Brazil unit president Martin Cheah was acquitted of all charges stemming from anti-corruption probe Operation Car Wash on Dec 20.
Another individual linked to Operation Car Wash, Guilherme Esteves de Jesus, was also acquitted by the Brazilian Federal Lower Court on the same day, said Seatrium in an announcement on Tuesday (Dec 26). The Brazilian prosecutor’s office may appeal the court’s decision.
The charges were directed at both individuals in their own personal capacity and not against Seatruim’s Brazilian subsidiary, Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz. Seatrium noted that the outcome of Operation Car Wash as well as the impact of the court’s decision on ongoing investigations or allegations are still unknown.
Seatrium will continue to monitor developments and make announcements in the event of material developments.
Its counter closed 0.9 per cent or S$0.001 higher at S$0.113 on Tuesday.
