TWO ambulatory surgical centres of medical eye-care provider ISEC Healthcare are participating in Malaysia's Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Located in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka, the two clinics, ISEC Sdn Bhd and Southern Specialist Eye Centre Sdn Bhd, will administer the jabs free of charge to members of the public, with the vaccine costs to be borne by the Ministry of Health in Malaysia.

ISEC will receive RM14 (S$4.51) per dose, to partially defray any manpower and other incidental costs incurred by the centres.

The Catalist-listed company said the vaccination services will start "soon after" all the necessary training and preparations are completed, and the initiative is expected to end in February 2022.

It may be extended if necessary, and early termination is also allowed with mutual agreement.

Each clinic will start with at least 50 vaccinations per day, for five days a week, ISEC Healthcare said in a bourse filing on Tuesday evening.

"We plan to increase the number once our staff are familiar with, and are efficient in, the processes and workflow," it added.

“This is an initiative by ISEC Malaysia to contribute to the community in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic,” the company noted.

The move comes under an agreement with not-for-profit company ProtectHealth Malaysia, established under the country's health ministry. ProtectHealth coordinates, administers and manages initiatives related to financing healthcare services as mandated by the ministry.

In May, local media outlets reported that the Malaysian government would allow private hospitals and general practitioners' clinics to be used as Covid-19 vaccination centres.

Shares of ISEC Healthcare were flat at 35.5 Singapore cents at Tuesday's close.
