Japanese brewer Sapporo Breweries, Carlsberg to invest in US$643 million Singapore-based JV
This expands the parties’ existing partnership in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore to include Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia
[TOKYO] Japanese beverage manufacturer Sapporo Breweries said on Monday (Jul 6) that it will form a strategic partnership with Danish brewer Carlsberg, investing about US$643 million for a 25 per cent stake in a joint venture (JV).
The JV will cover South-east Asia and Hong Kong and is to be based in Singapore. It is expected to be established in December 2026 and will be 75 per cent owned by Carlsberg.
Sapporo said that the alliance will expand an existing partnership in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore to include Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
In 2023, Sapporo, a Sapporo Holdings unit, announced a tie-up with Carlsberg for the production and sale of Sapporo beer in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, Bloomberg reported.
The Japanese brewer aims to increase sales of Sapporo Premium Beer in the target markets to around 10 times of 2025 levels by 2035.
It plans to do so by leveraging Carlsberg’s strong market presence across the region.
Under the agreement, Sapporo will grant the JV a long-term licence for Sapporo Premium Beer and expects to benefit from diversified revenue streams including dividends, royalty income and manufacturing-related earnings. REUTERS
