Keppel Corp's non-executive and independent director to retire

    CONGLOMERATE Keppel Corporation's non-executive and independent director, Tony Chew, will retire from the group's board of directors on May 1.

    Mr Chew will concurrently cease to be chairman of the nominating committee and member of the audit committee.

    He will be succeeded by Tan Puay Chiang as chairman of the nominating committee on the same day.

    Meanwhile, Till Vestring, who joined the board on Feb 16, will be appointed as member of the nominating committee and the remuneration committee, also with effect from May 1.

    KepCorp's chairman, Lee Boon Yang, thanked Mr Chew for his 13 years of contributions. "The Keppel Group has benefited from his extensive business experience, wisdom and entrepreneurial spirit," he said.

    Mr Chew was KepCorp's lead independent director from 2006 to 2009 and has been the chairman of the nominating committee since 2009.

    In his latter position, Mr Chew was "instrumental" in overseeing the top leadership succession of the group in recent years, Dr Lee said.

    "That the leadership transition process was achieved smoothly is a clear testimony to Mr Chew's capability and commitment to Keppel's interest," he added.
