KITCHEN Culture on Friday (Mar 17) said it received a letter of demand from CDL Properties’ lawyer for S$250,970 in alleged rent owed for the December 2022 to March 2023 period.

The embattled kitchen solutions provider said it received the letter on Mar 14 for its registered office in Republic Plaza. The sum comprises rent, service charge, electricity, interest and a top-up of deposit.

CDL also demanded payment of this sum in addition to legal costs of S$140.40 by 4 pm on Mar 20, failing which it will terminate the lease agreement and re-enter and repossess the premises.

Kitchen Culture plans to ask for an extension to Mar 31 in order to pay the outstanding sum, failing which it will be evicted, it said in the bourse filing. It added that it is in the midst of securing potential financing to support the working capital of the group.

In November last year, CDL Properties’ lawyer slapped Kitchen Culture with a letter of demand in relation to alleged outstanding rental arrears of about S$120,500 for the same property. This was for October and November 2022.

CDL Properties is a wholly-owned subsidiary of mainboard-listed City Developments Limited.

Last year, Kitchen Culture faced intense boardroom drama after Ooway Group, a substantial shareholder, attempted to replace five directors from the company’s six-person board.

After a failed first extraordinary general meeting and a second declared invalid by the Kitchen Culture’s board due to documentation issues, Ooway failed to obtain an injunction to have the five directors removed after the court dismissed its application.

Shares of Catalist-listed Kitchen Culture have been suspended since July 2021.
