Lim Jit Poh to retire as chairman of SBS Transit, effective April 29

SBS Transit has announced that chairman Lim Jit Poh will be stepping down from his role after 18 years. This will be effective April 29, following the annual general meeting (AGM) for the mainboard-listed public transport operator that will take place on the same day.

Mr Lim, who has been the chairman of SBS Transit since 2003, will not stand for re-election at the AGM. He will remain as senior adviser to provide continuity to the group "as it navigates a changing environment in a tightly regulated industry", according to a press statement on Thursday. Mr Lim will also remain as chairman of ComfortDelGro and Vicom for now, but will retire from those positions in the next couple of years.

Said Mr Lim: "As chairman of the Board, I have a personal responsibility to ensure that the Board remains strong even as it undergoes renewal. In a changing landscape, it is important to ensure that new directors are able to contribute actively and significantly.

"At the Board and management level, we are always cognisant of the fact that SBS Transit is not just any listed entity, it is also a public transport operator with a sizeable workforce. Our responsibilities go beyond just our shareholders, they also extend to the commuting public, the union and the regulator."

Apart from Mr Lim, other directors - including Benny Lim and John De Payva - will be retiring as well, having reached the end of their term under normal rotation rules.
