THE year's busiest period for investors and companies alike is just around the corner, as corporates with a Dec 31 year-end (ie, the bulk of listed companies in Singapore) hold their annual general meetings (AGMs) in the coming months.

In addition to looking forward to the free food that such meetings are known for, retail investors would do well to prepare themselves to make the most of these yearly face-to-face encounters with companies' boards and management.

Such meetings are an infrequent opportunity for retail investors to personally interact with the people managing the target of their investment, as well as those providing oversight of such management, to have their queries and concerns about the business addressed directly.
