Mary Chia CEO slapped with new charge over work pass permit for foreign employee

MARY Chia Holdings, which operates a chain of slimming centres, on Wednesday said a further charge was brought against its Spa Menu Pte Ltd for failure to obtain a valid work pass for a foreign employee.

Its chief executive officer, Ho Yow Ping, has been charged for a breach of the Massage Establishment Act by the Singapore Police Force. This relates to her capacity as director of two wholly owned subsidiaries of the company - Mary Chia Beauty and Slimming Specialist Pte Ltd, and Spa Menu Pte Ltd.

"These charges relate to employment of staff without the prior approval of the licensing officer and failure to maintain proper employee's record at these subsidiaries," the company said.

In May, the company said Ho had received three charges for a breach of employment under the Foreign Manpower Act.

Spa Menu Pte Ltd and Mary Chia Beauty and Slimming Specialist Pte Ltd continue to operate their businesses as usual, Mary Chia said.
