Dell looks to corporate sales for revenue boost as consumer demand falters
Multi-cloud business is the most important bet Dell Technologies is making, co-COO Chuck Whitten says
GLOBAL demand for PCs, having surged through most of the pandemic, is dropping off. But PC maker Dell Technologies has managed to keep growing, thanks to steady demand from commercial clients.
The company is best known for its Dell laptops and desktop computers, which it supplies to both retail and corporate customers. Indeed, this business – parked under the Client Solutions Group – contributed 58.7 per cent of the group’s revenue for the three months to Jul 29, 2022 (Q2 FY2023).
But growth at the Client Solutions Group has been dragged down by the consumer segment, which saw a revenue fall of 9 per cent to US$3.35 billion in Q2. Commercial demand rose 15 per cent to US$12.14 billion, supporting total revenue for the Client Solutions Group to an increase of 9 per cent to US$15.49 billion.
