THE Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has ordered a Japan Foods Holding unit to pay a financial penalty of S$75,000 over infringements under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.

This came as MOM’s investigation uncovered erroneous Central Provident Fund contributions, which inflated the foreign employee entitlement for the subsidiary, Japan Foods Enterprises (JFE).

In a bourse filing on Thursday (May 11), the company, however, said such errors arose due to an administrative oversight. It stated in particular that the authorities did not note any criminal offence.

Notwithstanding that, the group said JFE will pay the penalty accordingly and work with MOM on the lifting of the suspension for new work pass applications.

It added: “The board takes this matter seriously and has instructed management to take the necessary steps to ensure that such infringements do not recur.”

The financial penalty is not expected to have any material impact on the group’s financial results for the current financial year ending Mar 31, 2024, it pointed out.

Shares of Japan Foods Holding closed flat at S$0.44 on Thursday.
