Multi-industry firms tops in governance
COMPANIES in the finance, transport and telecommunication sectors are among the best governed and most transparent in Singapore, according to a new publication released yesterday on the annual Governance and Transparency Index (GTI).
"Corporate Governance Highlights 2013" builds on the detailed GTI 2013 rankings unveiled on Aug 1. The publication and the GTI are prepared by the NUS Business School's Centre for Governance, Institutions and Organisations (CGIO), in partnership with CPA Australia and The Business Times.
According to the publication, companies classified as "multi-industry" were the best scorers, overall. A strong second were companies from the finance sector - most likely because of the stringent governance standards banks and financial institutions have to adhere to. Transport, storage and communication companies were a very close third.
