MUN Siong Engineering has received a letter of demand from Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance seeking a recovery of compensation paid arising out of a fire accident at Pulau Bukom in 2015, based on a Singapore Exchange filing on Thursday evening.

In the letter of demand dated April 21, 2017, the US property and casualty insurer is seeking S$488,457.47 in relation to compensation paid by it to the employees of PEC and Audex under the Work Injury Compensation Act.

Mun Siong has notified and referred the letter of demand to its insurer, it said.

Six contractor workers were injured when a fire broke out at one of the units at Shell's oil refinery on Aug 21, 2015.

Pulau Bukom houses the US$3 billion Shell Eastern Petrochemicals Complex, which opened in May 2010, and is Shell's largest petrochemical investment.
