NERA Telecommunications reported a 40.8 per cent rise in net profit to S$2.86 million, from S$2.03 million one year ago, in the financial first quarter which ended on March 31, 2017. This came on the back of a 44.3 per cent rise in revenue to S$44.12 million from S$30.57 million one year ago.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) for the period was 0.79 Singapore cent compared to 0.52 Singapore cent one year ago. Nera did not declare any dividend for the period.

During the quarter, the company secured around S$58.7 million in order in-take, a slight decline of 1.4 per cent compared to S$59.6 million in the year-ago quarter due mainly to lower orders from the wireless infrastructure network business segment. The company's network infrastructure business segment secured about S$41.1 million in order in-take, an 18 per cent increase compared to S$34.8 million in the year-ago quarter.

The company's wireless infrastructure network business segment secured order in-take of about S$17.6 million, a decline of 28.8 per cent compared to S$24.8 million in the year-ago quarter, due mainly to a challenging operating environment and market competition.

The company said that in view of expectations for mobile carriers to continue investing and upgrading their networks, the company is confident that there will be a key demand and growth driver for its wireless infrastructure network business.
