New career roadmap for SMRT engineers
TO improve the reliability of its train services and increase the attractiveness of its engineering jobs, public transport operator SMRT Corporation has introduced on Friday a structured career roadmap for its rail engineers.
The SMRT Train Engineer Professionalisation (STEP) is a progressive competency-based scheme for the professional development of all executive engineering staff in SMRT.
To allow for mobility within the company, three career tracks will be introduced under STEP. Other features of STEP include rail engineering courses, leadership and management training, job rotation, academic sponsorship, mentorship, external secondment to SMRT's partners, and application projects.
STEP's curriculum will also prepare SMRT engineers for the new Chartered Engineer (Singapore) accreditation for rail engineers which was launched separately on Friday by the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES).
The new roadmap is part of SMRT's measures to expand its team to prepare for the future growth in Singapore's rail network, which will double its capacity by 2030.
