New job scopes for remaining RWS staff

STAFF who have escaped the axe at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) could take up higher-value, redesigned jobs, as the integrated resort pushes ahead with its "RWS 2.0" redevelopment.

An in-house training hub, set up late last year, will also double down on skills transformation hand in hand with public and industry partners.

"While accelerating our innovation development, we will redesign jobs across the resort with technological innovation enhancing day-to-day processes, increase productivity and create jobs with better remuneration prospects," RWS said on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the resort pointed to new roles in areas such as sustainable landscaping and horticulture, as well as predictive analytics for better customer engagement.

Technical support for augmented reality and other technology, or new entertainment venues, were also cited as some possible new positions.

That's as the RWS 2.0 project looks to add more than 164,000 square metres of attractions - for example, the expansion of the S.E.A. Aquarium into a new Singapore Oceanarium.

The RWS spokesperson added that the resort's RWS Academy will work with public agencies Workforce Singapore and SkillsFuture Singapore on tourism skills programmes, "to transform our workforce through re-skilling and upgrading".

That's on top of training tie-ups with the labour movement's NTUC LearningHub and the Singapore Hotel Association's Shatec, in fields such as innovation and digital transformation.
