OCBC appoints group CEO Helen Wong as executive director
OCBC’s group chief executive officer (group CEO) Helen Wong has been elected an executive director of the bank’s board.
The nomination as executive director was made by OCBC’s nominating committee and approved by the board, said the bank on Tuesday (Feb 7).
Wong will assume the responsibilities of both her current role as group CEO as well as that of an executive director.
She was formerly chief executive of HSBC in Greater China before joining OCBC in April 2021 to take over Samuel Tsien, who retired after 14 years with the bank – nine of which were as group CEO.
The move made Wong the first woman to head a Singapore bank. She was reported to have been paid an annual salary of S$7.6 million in 2021.
Wong is also listed as a non-executive, non-independent director of Great Eastern, the insurance arm of OCBC.
